Friends of Merrymeeting Bay (FOMB) is pleased to host Maine Search & Rescue Dogs (MESARD) Jordy, Baxter and Kenny who, along with their handlers Chad Carleton and Nicole St. Pierre, will conduct a K9 SAR Dog Demo at 4:00 pm on September 10 in Bowdoinham. This event is held at the Merrymeeting Bay Wildlife Management Area. Children are encouraged to attend.

Maine Search And Rescue Dogs (MESARD), founded in 1983, is a non-profit, all-volunteer K9 Search and Rescue group in Maine supporting search missions conducted by the Maine Warden Service, State Police, and other law enforcement agencies across Maine. A MESARD team consists of a K9 handler and a search dog that have completed extensive training and passed certifications. All MESARD teams comply with the Maine Association for Search and Rescue standards. All operational MESARD teams are trained in one or more of the following specialties: wilderness air scent search, tracking, water search and human remains detection (HRD). All MESARD dogs are temperament tested for stability and safety according to Maine Association of Search and Rescue (MASAR) standards. Search teams are ready to deploy within 15 minutes, 24/7.

Jordy, a Dutch Shepard, is Chad’s current dog, certified in trailing. Chad’s first dog Jenga is now retired. She was certified in Wilderness Air Scent Search, Article Search and Advanced Land HRD. Chad serves as MESARD’s vice president.

Nicole’s dogs are Labrador Retrievers, Baxter (chocolate) and Kenny (yellow). Baxter is her first search dog and is certified in wilderness Airscent and Advanced Land Human Remains Detection. Nicole serves as the MESARD Secretary.

Participants should wear footwear appropriate for tick protection. For directions and to pre-register (required), please contact Ed Friedman at 666-3372.
